Tube Team Takes Top BME Capstone Honors

A trio of undergraduates in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory took the department’s top Capstone Design Award while a team from the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering took the top overall prize in Tuesday night’s Spring Expo at McCamish Pavilion,

 

Winning the BME prize, and $1,000 was Tube Team, a trio of young women who developed a solution to organize IV catheter tubes to increase patient and medical staff safety during ICU transport. The winning students are Emily Dunford, Arielle Margulies, and Sarah Nixon. They were among 34 teams from the Coulter Department competing among the 236 teams of undergraduate students from 11 different schools at departments at Georgia Tech.

 

But taking the top overall prize was a team of young mechanical engineers, Smart Soil, who developed an indoor, user-friendly composting device using worms to produce nutrient rich compost.
