Georgia Tech's ADAPTS-Disability Services Program for Students hosts a training, led by ADAPTS Director Denise Johnson-Marshall, on "Legal & Ethical Aspects of Providing Services to Students with Disabilities."
Description:
This training will examine Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. We will discuss court cases and the potential impact on higher education and our responsibility as an institute to both legally and ethically comply with the law while serving our students. This program is one of three workshops offered for the ADAPTS Liaison Program (ALP). The ADAPTS-Liaison Program (ALP) is designed to educate faculty and staff members on their role in providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities at Georgia Tech. As an ALP member, you will be extending the scope in which ADAPTS can serve our students by increasing the number of trained advocates in various areas across campus.
The ADAPTS-Disability Services Program staff currently serves as full-time advocates for students with disabilities. Our role is to ensure that all students have physical and programmatic access to all college programs and services thereby enhancing their interactions in all activities of the campus community. To aid us in better fulfilling our motto, “promoting access to all phases of campus life”, we are honored that you will be an integral part of the ALP. Other trainings include: Disability 101 and Universal Design.
