Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project
Rich Svindland is a Professional Engineer and utility executive with over 28 years of experience in the water/wastewater fields. He currently serves as the President of California American Water and Hawaii American Water both investor-owned regulated utilities, where he and his team of 300 dedicated employees are responsible for the operation of water/wastewater systems serving over 600,000 people.
Two projects that Rich is extremely proud of are the recently completed Carmel River Reroute and San Clemente Dam Removal Project(http://www.sanclementedamremoval.org/) which was an $83M project that ultimately removed an unsafe dam and restored fish passage and the ongoing Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project(https://www.watersupplyproject.org/) which is a $329M project to replace over 70% of the service area’s water supply and includes a 6.4 MGD (7,200 AFY) desalination plant, over 20+ miles of new water mains, increased Aquifer Storage and Recovery and a 4 MGD (net 3,500 AFY) groundwater replenishment project using recycled water purchased from Monterey One Water and the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District.
Rich received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1990 and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 2005. He is licensed in Georgia and Kentucky and is a member of ASCE, WEF, AWWA & DBIA. Additionally, he serves on the Board of CalChamber, CalDesal and the California Foundation for the Environment and the Economy (CFEE).
