Campus Center Project Site Tours and Launch Event

Staff, faculty, and students are encouraged to take part in weekly tours of the future site of some of the Campus Center buildings, where ambassadors will be available to answer questions about the project. The tours depart from the Information Desk in the Student Center every Wednesday at 4 p.m. and last approximately 30 minutes.

The campus community is invited to help launch the Campus Center project on Thursday, May 2, at 11 a.m. on the Instructional Center Lawn. This will include a formal kickoff with campus leadership, giveaways, and time to ask ambassadors questions about the project.

The first signs of Campus Center construction will appear next week, as work takes place to enable larger efforts this summer. While this will entail some disruption to the southwest sector of campus, the work is not expected to impact final exams or Commencement activities.

Beginning Monday, April 15, traffic along Ferst Drive between Regents Drive and the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) will be reduced to one lane to allow utility infrastructure installation that will connect to the new exhibition hall and pavilions. Through access will be maintained utilizing flaggers during working hours (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.), but those who drive on campus are advised to plan for increased travel time along Ferst Drive. This portion of the work is expected to conclude by the end of April.

Work will also begin that Monday on the southwest and southeast corners of the W02 parking deck in preparation for a new entrance and exit to the deck. The pedestrian path, bicycle lane, and on-street parking on the north side of Ferst Drive in the vicinity of this project site will be closed; pedestrians will need to cross to Tech Parkway or around the north side of W02 to pass through this area. The current entry and exit for the W02 deck will be maintained throughout this work. The new entrance will be open for use in May, when changes to deck traffic flow will occur inside the deck.

There will also be intermittent work in the Area 3 (visitor parking) and W03 parking lots to inspect utility lines during this period. Those who park in these lots should be that some spaces will be blocked off intermittently to enable this work.

Knowing that final exams and class presentations often begin before final exam week, the design-build team has been mindful of the noise and traffic impacts of this work and will aim to minimize disruption as much as possible. These enabling projects will last through part of finals week, but are expected to conclude by Wednesday, May 1, to allow Commencement and the Project Launch Event to take place unimpeded.
