Ashok Goel, professor in Georgia Tech’s School of Interactive Computing and BBISS Fellow, will be speaking at the annual meeting of the Association for Psychological Science in Washington, D.C. this May. He will participate in a symposium that will give an overview of the collaboration between Georgia Tech and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History. This effort integrated an artificial intelligence tool called the Virtual Ecological Research Assistant (VERA) with the Encyclopedia of Life. Goel will highlight how the VERA-EOL project is an excellent example of interdisciplinary research on AI, big data, and cognitive science. He will also talk about how the design of the VERA AI research tool has been informed by the cognitive sciences. Sara Kiesler, from the National Science Foundation, and Fred Oswald, from Rice University, will also be speaking during the symposium.
