Andrew Harris, an alumnus of the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs master's program, was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award on March 12.

The Distinguished Alumni Awards honor graduates from each of the six academic schools in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. The Nunn School selects alums based on demonstrated excellence and leadership in any of the diverse fields they have chosen to apply their education and experiences.

Harris who graduated from the Master's of Science in International Affairs in 2010, now serves as Amazon's head of public policy for Southeast Asia. He started his career with Amazon as a public policy manager and later promoted to senior manager.

Before Amazon, Harris worked for the U.S. Department of State as a foreign affairs officer and then as an internet policy advisor to the U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy.

Harris was nominated by Michael Best, associate professor in the Nunn School, and Seymour Goodman, regents professor in the Sam Nunn School. Best said, "Andrew is a quintessential Nunn School graduate - successfully navigating the intersections of international affairs, science and technology, and policy - and doing it at the highest levels."

Harris who was unable to attend the awards ceremony said, "I am very thankful for the recognition, but I know that my career is simply a reflection of the excellent preparation and opportunity the program and faculty provided me."
