Summaries

Summary Sentence: In this lunch 'n' learn, we will hear from faith leaders whose courageous efforts have created positive change for LGBTQIA people across different Christian denominations.

Full Summary: The LGBTQIA Interfaith Lunch & Learn series encourages conversation around the intersection of gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, and faith traditions. The series began in response to the needs of our LGBTQIA people of faith who seek to reconcile and celebrate identities that lie at the the intersection of gender, sexuality, faith, religion, and spirituality. One lunch is hosted each semester.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said "Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals." With the United Methodist Church's recent decision to uphold restrictions on same-sex marriage and LGBT clergy creating further divides among church leaders and members, conversations about inclusion in the church are more urgent than ever. In this lunch 'n' learn, we will hear from faith leaders whose courageous efforts have created positive change for LGBTQIA people across different Christian denominations. Our panelists will share their experiences of advocating for inclusion, dealing with the disappointment of setbacks, and engaging and leading others in pushing for transformation.
