Whether you are a HSOC major or just a history geek – come and join the Phi Alpha Theta honors society!   Dr. Gerona has extended the deadline, but please let her know no later than Monday, March 25 (though if you could let her know before you leave for Spring Break that would be even better!): cgerona@hsoc.gatech.edu. Read on for more information about this great opportunity.

Established in 1921, Phi Alpha Theta is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history. The society has over 350,000 members, with about 9,500 new members joining each year through 860 local chapters. The society recognizes academic achievement. But we also elect officers, and members who are interested play a leadership role in HSOC student activities.

The members of Alpha Kappa Phi, Georgia Tech's local chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, has hosted various campus events, including outside speakers, a History Con on Halloween, and international film nights and food tastings.  We present original research in historical conferences around the state. In April 2018, Georgia Tech hosted the Regional Conference for Georgia. Our website is: https://hsoc.gatech.edu/undergraduate/clubs

If you have 12 semester hours (four courses) in history, achieve a minimum GPA of 3.1 in history and a GPA of 3.0 or better overall you can become a chapter member. Three credit hours of online, transfer, or AP credits may be applied to the membership eligibility requirement.  Membership is not limited to HSOC majors or minors.  Phi Alpha Theta welcomes undergraduate and graduate students.

There is a one-time due of $50.00.  All initiated students will receive a graduation sash, a membership certificate, and a one-year subscription to the quarterly journal, The Historian.  Initiates will have their names published in The Historian, and the honor society has multiple scholarship and research opportunities.  If you would like to join but the fee is a barrier, please contact Dr. Gerona, and let her know your circumstances.

For all other questions contact Dr. Gerona. cgerona@hsoc.gatech.edu
