ACC Advocacy Events 2Four student leaders from Georgia Tech recently attended the annual Advocacy events held by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The students traveled to Washington, D.C. and spent two days with panels and Congressional staff. Three undergraduate students and one grad student attended these events. Evan Gillon and Ayo Aladesanmi were two of the four students who represented Georgia Tech for the events. Evan is the President of the Georgia Tech Student Government Association. Ayo is the organization’s Executive Vice President. Both are Ivan Allen College students.
These events allowed Tech students to collaborate with other ACC schools and advocate for issues to important Tech students. Evan and Ayo discussed issues that were important to the GT student body. These issues included the Higher Education Act (HEA) reauthorization which would include increased access to federal student loans, maintaining and increasing access to Public Service Loan Forgiveness, simplifying FAFSA, Title IX reform, etc. Additionally, they spoke about federal issues surrounding immigration and the importance of federally funded research.
