Implications of emerging technologiesThe Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University are hosting a one-day conference on implications of emerging technologies in terrorism. The goal of the event is to critically examine the following questions: How do disruptive and emerging technologies impact non-state actors? Does the proliferation of new technologies change the dynamics of asymmetric warfare?
The conference will provide a forum where members of the military and academic researchers can “bridge the gap” to develop strategies in response to the possibility of terrorist groups acquiring new technologies. It will conclude with two keynote speakers, Peter Singer and Emerson T. Brooking, authors of LikeWar - The Weaponization of Social Media.
There will be four panels with industry experts:
Drones and Autonomous Vehicles: Erik Lin-Greenberg, Sarah Kreps, Jim Walsh
Cyberterrorism: Audrey Alexander, Vivan Guetler, Paul Harwood
Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Threats (CBRN): Gary Ackerman, Victor Asal, Dan Kaszeta, Carol Kuntz
Artificial Intelligence: Erica Briscoe, Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, David Muchlinski
This conference is hosted by Mia Bloom, a professor at Georgia State University; Jenna Jordan, an associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech; Lawrence Rubin, an associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech; and Yannick Veilleux-Lepage, a senior research associate at Georgia State University. It will take place on April 11th at the Conference Center at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.
Parking will be validated at the conference for the GTRI Conference Center parking deck. The conference is free to attend but we ask that attendees please register beforehand for catering purposes.
