The Georgia Institute of Technology is a top American public university for engineering according to the latest QS World University Rankings, released Feb. 27.

Georgia Tech also jumped one spot from the 2018 overall rankings, from 70 to 69. This ranking places Georgia Tech in the top 7 percent of colleges ranked worldwide by QS. Since 2015, Georgia Tech has moved up 38 places in the rankings.

Published annually since 2004, the QS rankings measure academic institutions on the basis of academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, international faculty, and international students.

Georgia Tech’s strongest rankings indicator was in citations per faculty, where Tech was one of only six universities in the world to receive a perfect score of 100. According to QS, evaluating academic citations is the best understood and most widely accepted measure of research strength for universities..

In individual subject rankings, Georgia Tech came in at number 14 for engineering and technology, ranking second for any public institution in the United States. Tech also had a strong showing in the statistics and operational research category, ranking seventh worldwide.
