U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) 2019 Fall Unpaid Student Internship Program

This is a full-time, unpaid internship.

Diplomatic Security seeks students from ALL academic backgrounds for the DS internship experience. 

You will work closely with representatives of the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign and Civil Services — among them, Diplomatic Security Special Agents, Security Engineering Officers, Security Technical Specialists, and Diplomatic Couriers. 

The internship program is both professionally and academically beneficial, providing hands-on experience and insight into the law enforcement and security side of U.S. foreign policy.

In order to intern with DS, you must select ‘Bureau of Diplomatic Security’ as one of your preferred bureaus. 

DS has internship opportunities in Washington, D.C., domestic offices throughout the U.S., and at overseas posts.

Please note that the deadline to submit completed applications is February 28, 2019.  

Interns will be expected to enter on duty in the September/October 2019 timeframe.

To qualify you must:

  1. Be a United States citizen
  2. Be at least 16 years old
  3. Have at least a 3.0 GPA
  4. Be pursuing a baccalaureate or graduate degree.
  5. Be a college junior, senior, or graduate student with at least 60 credit hours.—You are considered a college junior if you will be starting your junior year immediately following the completion of your internship.
  6. Be enrolled in an accredited college or university on at least a part-time basis.
  7. Be a continuing student—This means that you will be returning to or have the intention at the time of application of returning to your course of study the semester/quarter, immediately following the completion of your internship.
  8. Be able to receive and maintain a security clearance.

Georgia Tech students interested in applying for the above internship with the Department of State Bureau of Diplomatic Security office in Washington, D.C. should also consider applying for a Georgia Tech Federal Jackets Fellowship to help defray the costs of living in Washington, D.C. only (The internship opportunity below also exists in other locations in the U.S. and overseas.)
