Renaissance Simulations: Rare Peak Fly-through

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Renaissance Simulations: Rare Peak Fly-through

This visualization was rendered from the "RarePeak" region in the Renaissance Simulations that follows the formation of 800 galaxies in an over-dense region of the universe when it was only 270 million years old. The blue and red indicates neutral (cold) and ionized (hot) gas.  The white shows where the galaxies are creating ultraviolet light, heating the surrounding intergalactic gas.  This simulation was run on the Blue Waters supercomputer at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).
