Dr. Galante began his medical career at Georgia Tech in 1997 working in sports medicine at Stamps Health Services (SHS). He hails from New York where he attended Albany Medical College and did his residency at the State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo. He was originally interested in coming to Georgia Tech for the opportunity to work with Division I athletes in a major city.

His role at Georgia Tech has evolved over the years and in fall 2018 was named the first Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine -Chief Medical Officer. In his new role, Galante will oversee the care of athletes, supervising the sports medicine staff to include: athletic trainers, physicians, physical therapists, chiropractor, dietician, and dentists. Before this appointment, Galante worked with the Georgia Tech Football as the team’s head physician where he spent his weekends traveling with the team and keeping the players healthy on and off the field. Despite the new role, he will continue to spend half of his clinical time at SHS, providing care in the primary care and sports medicine clinics. The other half of his clinical time will be spent in athletics.

When asked about his new role Galante said, “I have a love of all sports and I am looking forward to continuing to contribute to the well-being of individuals in a positive and meaningful way on the Georgia Tech campus.”

SHS senior director, Dr. Ben Holton said, “His new role will strengthen the collaboration between SHS and the GT Athletics Association. Although he will spend less clinical time at SHS, the clinical time is being made up by the hiring of a new midlevel provider. This will allow Stamps to increase appointment times available to students.” For more information about SHS or scheduling a sports medicine appointment visit health.gatech.edu.
