Team emPrize, a group of Georgia Tech AI researchers, is developing a suite of virtual tutors for online education that mimic many of the roles of human teachers. According to Dr. Ashok Goel, Professor of Computer Science in the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology, these tutors include more than 100 nanotutors for a Georgia Tech online class on artificial intelligence, as well as a virtual tutor for automatically answering questions on the discussion forum for the class. Preliminary results indicate that student self-efficacy in the class is high.
In a 30 minute Q&A, Dr. Goel, along with Leanne West, Chief Engineer of Pediatric Technologies for Georgia Tech, will outline the emPrize virtual tutors, highlighting the team’s goals, challenges, insights, accomplishments, and failures and relate it to how similar AI technologies can and will be used for healthcare and for work more generally.
