Meet Lucy Kates – B.S. Industrial Design, Class of 2020

Hometown – Elkins Park, Pennsylvania

Why did you choose to attend Georgia Tech?

I chose Georgia Tech because I loved the campus and the Atlanta area. And I wanted to be in an environment of motivated, bright students and professors.

What is your favorite memory at Tech?

My favorite memory is becoming best friends with everyone in my major by spending late nights in studio. Even though it is a struggle in the moment, looking back, these memories have been very fundamental to my experiences at Tech.

What do you like most about Industrial Design?

I appreciate that Industrial Design taught me how to think critically about everything. I approach problems from many different points of view and never go forward with just my first idea. I now keep brainstorming until I have come up with a variety of solutions.

How do you plan to use your Industrial Design degree after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to work as an interaction designer or UI/UX designer for a large company. I love to present ideas and concepts in a visual manner and figure out the best way to convey information to users.
