There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Title: Texture Representation and Analysis in Material Classification and Characterization
Committee:

Abstract:
The objective of the proposed research is designing a texture analysis framework and algorithms for material characterization, motion surveillance, and quality inspection in advanced manufacturing vision systems using handcrafted and machine-learning- texture representation methods. Our framework performs three main vision tasks: (1) extracting representative texture features and distinguishing various material types, (2) recognizing periodically repeat texture patterns exhibited in fabrics, and (3) tracking the position of materials for motion surveillance. For stochastic texture without patterns, we develop algorithms to examine material characteristics.
