The Georgia Tech-COPE Distinguished Lecture Series welcomes Professor Michael Graetzel from the Laboratory of Photonics and Interfaces at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland. Refreshments will be served prior to the lecture and at the reception following the lecture.
About Michael Graetzel
Dr. Graetzel pioneered research on energy and electron-transfer reactions in mesoscopic materials and their application in solar energy conversion systems, optoelectronic devices, and lithium-ion batteries.
He is widely recognized for his discovery of a new type of solar cells based on dye-sensitized nanocrystalline semiconductor oxide particles. Dye-sensitized solar cells form a class of low-cost, thin-film based solar cells. Invented by Michael Graetzel and Brian O'Regan at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in 1991, these cells are generally referred to as Graetzel cells. Michael Graetzel was awarded the prestigious 2010 Millennium Technology Prize for the invention of this class of solar cells.
