There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. International Affairs Assistant Professor Margaret E. Kosal was featured prominently in the Spring 2010 issue of "Research Horizons".
The article discusses Kosal's research and recent book, "Nanotechnology for Chemical and Biological Defense" (Springer Academic Publishers, 2009) on the potential of nanotechnology to be used for development of revolutionary countermeasures against biological and chemical weapons such as new detectors, protective gear, decontaminants, vaccines, and therapeutics and the dual use conundrum of nanotechnology's potential to enable the creation and proliferation of new or nano-enabled weapons. The work emphasizes the need to develop strategies now to be able to lessen the potential for malfeasant applications of these technologies in a much more analytical and systematic way than has been pursued thus far.
