Marilyn Brown (2017)School of Public Policy Regents and Brook Byers Professor of Sustainable Systems Marilyn Brown will be presenting a lecture at this year’s Norman Fries Distinguished Lectureship Series. In her lecture titled “Enabling the Great Energy Transition: Technology and Policy Challenges and Opportunities,” Dr. Brown will discuss the challenges and opportunities climate change and how it will impact our future.
The Norman Fries Distinguished Lectureship Series is an annual event that began at Georgia Southern University in 2001. The event is funded by an endowment in honor of the late Norman Fries, the founder of Claxton Poultry. Previous lectures at this event include David Oreck of Oreck Vacuums, South African apartheid author and lecturer Mark Mathabane, NASA director James W. “Jim” Kennedy, author and historian Gordon S. Wood, Nobel prize-winner Dr. William D. Phillips, best-selling author Susan Orlean, concussion expert Dr. Russell Gore, award-winning ethologist and biologist Frans de Waal, Ph.D., and, most recently, Col. Frederick Gregory, the first African-American man to pilot and command a space mission and serve as the deputy administrator of NASA.
Dr. Brown’s lecture will be held this Friday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of Nessmith-Lane Center. The event is free and open to the public. Her lecture will be live streamed at the Ogeechee Theatre in the Student Union on the Armstrong Campus.
