There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

CRC’s annual Halloween Holla 5k is no tricks, all treats. Every year people from the Georgia Tech community show up in their favorite costume to run and walk the Tyler Brown Pi Mile route. But, you may want to make sure having all this fun is for you. Check out the 6 reasons below and make sure none apply to you before registering (wink wink).

  1. You hate dressing up and winning cool prizes.
At registration, all contestants will take a photo and fill out an information card at the costume entry table. The CRC’s expert panel of judges will score all the costumes based on creativity and quality. After the top five costumes are selected, these contestants will have their photos posted to Facebook so that members of the Georgia Tech community can decide who has the winning costume. Every like on the photo counts as a vote. Whoever has the most votes takes home a prize. Not interested in costumes or winning? The Halloween Holla may not be for you.
  2. You don’t want to engage with the wonderful people of the Georgia Tech community.
All members of the Georgia Tech are welcome, even those without a CRC membership. Students, staff, faculty, and alumni affiliates are all encouraged to come show off their best costumes and run or walk in the race. But, if a great time on a great campus with great people isn’t your cup of tea, maybe stay home.
  3. You hate free stuff.
The first 200 students to check in to the race will receive a free race t-shirt! So if you don’t want to get a brand new super cool exclusive T-shirt, you may want to stay away.
  4. You think Halloween is the WORST.
Excitement, laughter, fun. Having a great time with your friends and new friendly faces. Costumes, friends, free stuff—the very spirit of Halloween! However, if you find Halloween an un-spirited time, stay inside and make sure to turn your light off (wouldn’t want any trick-or-treaters).
  5. You don’t want to see a giant hamburger (or other silly costume) run a 5K.
Not only will you get to see people in spooky, elaborate, and silly costumes—you will get to see these people running (or walking) an entire 5K. Picture a giant hamburger running across campus. A ghostbuster or pirate sprinting toward a finish line. Seem boring? Typical? Maybe stay at home!
  6. You don’t want to have Halloween fun.
Just don’t want to have fun before Halloween? Then you definitely shouldn’t come to the CRC Halloween Holla 5k, where there will be LOTS of fun!

In all seriousness, we hope to see you at the race! This year’s race takes place on October 26th at 7:30 a.m., and registration is free! Participants can register on-site, or register online through mycrc.gatech.edu. Online registration closes at midnight on October 24th. Check in for the race is from 6:30-7:15 a.m. The first 200 students to check in get a free dri-fit event shirt!

Come treat yourself to some Halloween fun with the CRC! When else will you get to run or walk in a race in your favorite costume, on your favorite campus? For more information on one of the sweetest events of the year and to pre-register, go to crc.gatech.edu/halloweenholla.
