Read below to find out how these Yellow Jackets will use their time off to give back to the community.
ASB is a student-run organization that seeks to provide affordable and meaningful service trips to Tech students during school breaks. Students will head to four locations this weekend:
Students interested in getting involved with ASB can visit its OrgSync page, Facebook page, or Instagram. Updates on the winter break trip applications will be posted there.
CCF, a campus ministry, often hosts service events to allow students to volunteer and give back to the community. This fall break, students will travel with CCF to Richmond, Texas, just outside Houston. The group will support continued hurricane relief efforts from Hurricane Harvey’s devastation in 2017.
About 40 students are planning to go, including 35 Tech students and others from Emory.
Students interested in getting involved in future CCF service trips can visit the group’s website.
Twelve students at the Georgia Tech Language Institute will travel to Puerto Rico over fall break to volunteer with Global Works, an organization that offers service and learning opportunities in countries around the world. The participating students are part of a scholarship program through Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Corporation and have been studying at Georgia Tech for the past year.
In Puerto Rico, Global Works focuses on hurricane relief efforts in the community of Villa del Rio. The students will work alongside community members on small construction projects to build houses that are safe and comfortable for residents. Global Works has partnered with Georgia Tech in the past, and students interested in volunteering can email the organization at info@globalworkstravel.com.
Trailblazers is a student organization that strives to increase student and faculty appreciation of the outdoors through trail adventure and exploration. During fall break, the group will travel to Alabama for a three-night rock climbing excursion. In addition to climbing, the group will work with the Southeastern Climbers Coalition to provide the outdoor service that makes recreational climbing accessible. The service work will take place at Jamestown Trail, one of many climbing destinations in the area.
