School of Industrial Design Lecture: The State of VR

Dhaval Joshi, Sr. Product Manager for VR /AR Experiences at Tencent, will speak on "The State of VR." Tencent is a technology company headquartered in China.

In this talk, Joshi will discuss about why designers need to know about virtual reality, and give a short overview of the role of VR in the future of design.

At Tencent, he leads a team focused on creating new interaction experiences ranging across virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence.

Prior to Tencent, Joshi led a UX Research team at Microsoft focused on developing methods to design and quantify hardware user experience for Microsoft Surface.

At Nokia Research Center, he led the design and pilot of a mobile reporting and tracking system to track the spread of communicable disease such as malaria in southern India.

And before that, at Motorola India Research Labs, Joshi explored mobile services for emerging markets and low-income populations.

His works are published in a number of HCI Journals and he has spoken at international venues and conferences such as MobileHCI, UXPA UserFriendly, IxDC, etc.

Doors for the lecture will open at 6 p.m. The talk will be followed by a Q & A.
