On Monday, August 27th, HSOC hosted the first speaker in the fall 2018 Speakers Series. Over one hundred people attended the lively lecture on Empire of Cotton by Harvard historian Sven Beckert, which included asides on cotton in Georgia. The audience included faculty and students from Tech and other universities, as well as the Dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. The event was standing room only.
