Fall intramural season is among us, do you dare accept the challenge? In the event that you have what it takes, registration for Phase 1 intramurals which consists of: flag football, ultimate Frisbee, cornhole, and whiffleball, runs from August 27th through August 30th on mycrc.gatech.edu. Intramurals are available for both students and employees of Georgia Tech. The season officially begins September 4th.

If you are on the fence about joining, we curated a list of reasons why you should not join an intramural team this fall with Campus Recreation (CRC).

You already have too many friends.

Friendships are linked to happiness, longer lives, and good health. Friends not only enrich your life but they improve your health as well. According to the Mayo Clinic, adults with strong social support have a reduced risk of many significant health problems, including depression, high blood pressure and an unhealthy body mass index (BMI). Friendships also play a critical part in your mental health. They have the ability to increase your sense of purpose and mindfulness which can reduce your stress. Intramurals connect you with new people of likeminded interests who you may not have met otherwise and help you reconnect with your current friends over a similar passion.

You don’t like adding different types of exercise to your routine.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of high intensity exercise each week. Play driven sports like intramurals offer a fun, group workout. Intramurals add routine to your workout schedule which means you are more likely to stick with it every week.

You don’t need any more help in your classes.

Competitive sports like intramurals can increase memory, concentration, and learning in participants which are linked to better academic performance and higher pay for professionals. Dedicating time each week to intramurals can help you focus better on tasks and find greater success at work and in the classroom.

If you are ready to commit to new friendships, increased exercise, and future success then go to crc.gatech.edu/intramurals to register.
