Greetings Yellow Jacket parents and family members! The Georgia Institute of Technology views the fraternity and sorority experience as a significant opportunity for student learning and involvement. Students involved with fraternity and sorority life build leadership skills, engage in community service and philanthropic efforts, participate in academic success initiatives and join in a wide array of social opportunities that foster the establishment of lifelong friendships built on shared values within their Greek organization.
This year, our fraternity and sorority community celebrates 130 years of history and is now home to 54 chapters! Naturally, this can seem a little overwhelming to students when they consider their options in deciding which chapter is right for them. The fraternities and sororities at Georgia Tech are grouped under four governing boards, each with their own unique recruitment and membership process. The following is a brief overview of each governing board and related recruitment events.
Collegiate Panhellenic Council
The Collegiate Panhellenic Council (CPC) is the governing body for 10 sororities: eight National Panhellenic Council (NPC) sororities and two national associate member sororities.
CPC will host formal recruitment for seven NPC sororities August 16-21. Female students interested in joining an NPC sorority are required to register for formal recruitment online at http://www.gatechcpc.com before 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 16. Our two associate member chapters, Alpha Delta Chi and Alpha Omega Epsilon, will host their recruitment period the following week. Visit the “Chapters” page at http://www.gatechcpc.com to find out more about the specific times, dates, and locations.
Interfraternity Council
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the governing board for Tech’s 32 inter/national fraternities. IFC hosts rush August 16-21, and registration is required. Interested men can find the online form on the IFC website, www.fraternity.gatech.edu. Although registration is required, rush is an informal, relaxed period of time when the chapters host events to meet and get to know potential new members for the fraternity.
Multicultural Greek Council
The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the governing body for five culturally based and cultural interest fraternities and sororities. The chapters of the MGC coordinate and implement their own new member recruitment processes. MGC will cohost a Welcome Back Dinner on August 24 at 7 p.m. which will kick-off their recruitment week. Information about the Multicultural Greek Council and its chapters can be found at http://mgc.gtorg.gatech.edu/
National Pan-Hellenic Council
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is the governing body for seven historically African American fraternities and sororities. There are four fraternities and three sororities in NPHC. The chapters coordinate and implement their own new member process, which is commonly referred to as “membership intake.” NPHC will cohost a Greek Convocation in early September. Information about NPHC and the member chapters can be found at http://greek.gatech.edu/.
If you or your student has any questions about the councils or their recruitment and membership intake processes, please contact Fraternity & Sorority Life at 404.894.2002 or visit us online at www.greek.gatech.edu.
