There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

The organizing committee of the 2018 Frontiers in Biorefining Conference is soliciting abstracts for both oral and poster presentations. A limited number of slots is available for presentations emphasizing the latest developments on transformation of renewable carbon building blocks to chemicals and materials, enabling the integrated biorefinery concept.

The conference will be held Nov. 5-8 at the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, St. Simons Island.

Topic areas include:

  • Engineering Feedstocks and Biomass Architecture
  • Cell Wall Deconstruction and Biomass Fractionation
  • Bio-Privileged Chemicals
  • Polymers and Soft Materials
  • Catalytic Conversion of Lignin and Carbohydrates
  • Biocatalytic Conversion
  • Thermochemical Conversion
  • Computational Biomass Chemistry and Physics

Frontiers in Biorefining focuses on the science underlying production of new bioproducts that will advance the concept of the biorefinery. Attendance will be limited to facilitate open discussion of the latest topics in development of products from biorefinery process streams. Further information can be obtained by contacting any of the members of the organizing committee.

Graduate Student Opportunities: Funding has been provided by the Sun Grant Initiative to defer graduate student travel expenses. The conference includes a poster competition for graduate students. Students are also encouraged to apply to present an overview of their research in a 5 minutes flash talk. Each session will incorporate two flash talks.
When submitting your abstract, please specify that you are a student participating to the poster session and if you are applying for a flash talk.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three posters as determined by a committee of conference attendees.

Instructions: Please supply an abstract, in English, of no more than 400 words, fitting on a single page, submitted in Word, and using the following format, in 10 point Arial font and spacing of 1.5 lines:

THE TITLE OF MY PRESENTATION (CENTERED, IN CAPS)

Presenting author, first co-author, second co-author, etc. (centered, italicized)
University, industrial or laboratory affiliation
Street address
City, State/Province, Country
Email address to contact

Please use full justification for the abstract and provide a concise description of the work to be presented at the conference. Figures will be acceptable, but please keep them to a minimum, and within the single page/400-word limit.

Please submit your abstract directly to Jessica McCord at jfox16@utk.edu.
