The Innovations in Economic Development Forum welcomes Nancey Green Leigh, a professor in the School of City and Regional Planning, on “Jobs in the City: The Future of Industrial Districts.”
About the Topic:
Creating a diversity of high-quality jobs in the urban core is a daunting economic development challenge, one that is exacerbated by the current economic climate. An important source of job diversity is industrial districts, which support local manufacturing and employment. However, since 2004, there has been a 12 percent reduction in the number of acres zoned for industrial use in the City of Atlanta. Using Atlanta as an example, Dr. Green Leigh will share a new vision for protecting and energizing a metropolitan industrial sector as a viable source of job growth and economic investment.
