Kristie Macrakis, professor in the School of History and Sociology at Georgia Tech delivered a lecture at a lecture series organized by the International Spy Museum, Washington, D.C., on February 21.

The series featured lectures from intelligence experts and historians on tactics and counter tactics deployed in safeguarding and stealing secrets. The lectures covered collection operations and counter tactics from the Cold War to today ranging from organized campaigns by one country against another, to systems turned against citizens, and even to solo 21st century hackers with an agenda.   

In her lecture titled “Every Citizen a Target,” Macrakis spoke about the East German Ministry for State Security, the Stasi, and its strategy of using informants and eavesdropping technology to spy abroad against espionage targets. The video of the lecture was recently made available to the public.
