After a national search, the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Faculty Development is pleased to announce that Marla Bruner is the new director of Graduate Studies.

“Marla’s experience as director of Graduate Student Services at Georgia Southern University and as assistant director of Graduate Studies here at Tech made her an ideal candidate for the position,” said Bonnie Ferri, vice provost for Graduate Education and Faculty Development. “With the tremendous growth of online graduate programs like the OMS CS and Analytics, this is an exciting time for graduate education at Tech. And I can’t think of a better person to lead us into this new period of growth than Marla.”

Bruner has served as interim director of Graduate Studies since the former director, David Bamburowski, left to assume the role of director of Faculty Affairs at Tech in August 2017. In her role as assistant director, Bruner oversaw the delivery of support services programs such as fellowship programs, the Grad Groups extended orientation program, and the annual GradExpo resource fair.

I am looking forward to continuing the work we do in the Office of Graduate Studies with our academic units and campus partners to further develop how we serve our students and campus community,” Bruner said.

During her time at Georgia Southern University from 2011-2016, Bruner developed and administered programs including new student orientation, commencement events, and seminars and workshops. She also served as advisor to the Graduate Student Organization.

Before working in graduate education, Bruner worked as manager of Internal Communications at Georgia Southern from 2008-2011. She earned her bachelor’s in Communications Arts and master’s in English from Georgia Southern, and is currently finishing an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from the same institution.
