ABSTRACT

How does truly disruptive innovation occur? What are the key elements of a modern health startup ecosystem? In an era of unprecedented opportunity for creating health technology ventures around new ideas, it has never been more crucial to nurture ecosystems where entrepreneurs, clinicians, scientific researchers, investors, patients, and supporters can thrive together. These ecosystems can exist on multiple levels -- in particular fields, regions, cities, universities, or within organizations. I will share the story of building an accelerator for neuro-technology startups as an example of how universities like Georgia Tech can leverage their strengths to promote health technology startups in a global community. Together we will discover how the rapidly shifting landscape of health technology -- including AI, data science, genomics, population health, advanced imaging, and neuro-technology -- will provide the savviest innovators with exponentially increasing opportunities in the future.
