NIIMBL (The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals) is one of 14 Manufacturing USA institutes. It is sponsored by NIST (up to $70m for 5 years) but is co-sponsored by industry and states (~ $140m envisioned).  
 
A Technical Needs Survey of industry, government agencies, and academia revealed interest in the following categories: 

  • Process development/intensification/platform development
  • Analytical methods/process control
  • Host cell line development 
  • Reference standards/regulatory science
  • Supply chain management/IT solutions
