The Georgia Tech Center for Engineering Education and Diversity (CEED) is hosting the Summer Engineering Institute (SEI). SEI is a 3-week residential engineering institute for rising 11th and 12th graders from across the nation (all under-represented minorities in engineering) who are working in teams to plan, design, and research the economical and social impacts of a selected engineering problem.
SEI Academic Facilitators (AF) develop a small project and teach the concepts associated with the project to the students participating in SEI. They also work with SEI administrators to create the judging rubric.
There are two phases of the position: 1) project development that takes place during May and June; 2) SEI class instruction/project facilitation which takes places in July.
If you….
- have strong communication and interpersonal skills,
- would like to work with 11th and 12th graders with a high interest in engineering
- enjoy working with others, and
- have a desire to work with under-represented minorities…
then you should apply to be an SEI-AF!

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Engineering or Computing graduate students (those supported by faculty or academic units as Graduate Research Assistants, Graduate Teaching Assistants, or Graduate Assistants are preferred).
TIME COMMITMENT:
Curriculum/Project Development: two 1 hour meetings during the months of May and June to discuss curriculum.
Summer Institute: 4 hours/day for instruction on the GT campus (from July 8th-27th) AND at least 2 hours/week preparation time (from July 8th-27th)
Compensation: Teaching assistants will receive $3,000 and 1 meal each day during the 3 week institute.
