The Technique, Georgia Tech’s student-run newspaper, took home 13 awards at the Georgia College Press Association’s (GCPA) annual awards ceremony last month. Among the honors were first-place prizes for Best Photograph – News, Best Photograph – Sports, and Best Campus Community Service – Editorial.

Brighton Kamen is a fourth-year industrial design major who serves as the paper’s editor-in-chief.

“Winning the GCPA awards shows that our hard work and late nights have paid off,” said Kamen. “Georgia Tech does not have a journalism school, and yet we've consistently won for our reporting, photography, and design.”

Among the winners was Casey Gomez, a fourth-year chemical engineering major and photography editor for the Technique. She won first place for Best Photograph – News for a photograph she took of MARTA’s large-scale terrorism drill.

Monica Jamison, a fourth-year international affairs major, won second place for Best Entertainment Story for her article highlighting the recently opened Atlanta venue Java Cats Café. A full list of awards won by the Technique, with links to winning articles and photos, can be seen below.

Awards or not, Kamen says the Technique will continue to provide the Tech community with interesting news and honest reporting on a wide range of subjects.

“The mission of the Technique is to provide both an unbiased campus news source and a voice for Georgia Tech,” said Kamen. “Since 1911, we've covered topics ranging from sports to student life, to local politics, to how national news affects campus.”
