Summaries

Summary Sentence: The Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning sponsors this Fall Teaching Kick-Off conversation

Full Summary: This session will demonstrate alternative methods for teaching problem-solving techniques that allow us to stay engaged with the students in class. Come join the discussion, and bring ideas that work in your discipline as well.

When we teach courses that involve a significant mathematical problem-solving component, we are faced with a dilemma. We know it is necessary to illustrate solution techniques in the classroom. However, we also know it’s important not to stand the whole period with our back to the class while facing the whiteboard and solving problems. This session will demonstrate alternative methods for teaching problem-solving techniques that allow us to stay engaged with the students in class. Come join the discussion, and bring ideas that work in your discipline as well.

The session will be led by Mitchel T. Keller, postdoctoral fellow, and Donna Llewellyn, director of CETL
