March is National Nutrition Month, and Georgia Tech is helping you go further with food! National Nutrition Month began in 1973 with the goal of providing American consumers information on the nutritional value of a wide variety of foods. Whether for intramurals, a long night of studying, or just starting the day, a healthy, balanced diet can go a long way for your performance.
For the first time ever the dieticians of Georgia Tech put together, a month-long “menu of options” dedicated to answering many of the questions they hear from you. This year’s theme, “Go Further with Food,” shows how food plays an important role in every moment of the day. Making smart food choices can improve your overall health and performance, as well as reduce food loss and waste. Your mind and body crave a healthy balanced diet to help you perform at your best. Your gut keeps your body’s immune responses and inflammation under control; this is especially helpful during high-stress situations. These gut hormones influence your cognitive ability, like processing new information, staying focused on tasks, and recognizing when you are full. These are all crucial to helping you perform the best you can at Georgia Tech. The National Nutrition Month events focus on helping you better understand what these meals and snacks look like and where to find them.
The dieticians are starting from the store up with events that range from cooking demos to a grocery store tour. There is something for everyone during this month-long celebration. You can find the full list of events here:
