“The Promise and Limits of Technology to Promote Successful Longevity”
Speaker: Neil Charness, PhD, The William G. Chase Professor of Psychology, Director, Institute for Successful Longevity, Florida State University
Abstract: We are in the midst of two revolutions. The 30-year longevity dividend acquired in the past century has contributed to widespread population aging. The rapid development and diffusion of technology, particularly information and communication technology, has provided unprecedented computing power to ordinary people. I focus on the promises and limits to using technology to address longevity concerns such as maintaining mobility and cognitive functioning.
The Optimal Aging Initiative of the School of Psychology at Georgia Tech seeks to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration in translating research on the effects of aging into evidence-based ways to support the quality of life and competence of older adults.
