Introduction to Dynamical Systems Methods for Mission Design

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

EDITOR'S NOTE. This event was first announced by the School of Mathematics. For updates, check the original posting.

This workshop is an introduction to recent mathematical advances in Arnold diffusion that will enable the design of spacecraft orbits that will use significantly less fuel by taking advantage of natural gravitational forces in space.

Workshop participants include mission design specialists from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and mathematicians from Georgia Tech and Yeshiva University.

The workshop is part of a Strategic University Research Partnership grant awarded by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to School of Mathematics Professor Rafael de la Llave and Yeshiva University Professor Marian Gidea. The project's JPL principal investigator is Rodney L. Anderson.

STUDENTS ARE WELCOME AND HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.

List of participants and schedule are available at http://people.math.gatech.edu/~rll6/JPL/jpl.html.
