Mark Hoeting Mark Hoeting has accepted the role of vice president for Information Technology (VPIT) and chief information officer (CIO) for Georgia Tech, a role responsible for developing and guiding the information technology strategy for the Institute’s strong academic, research, administrative, and service missions and activities. Mark has served in this interim leadership role since September 2016.
Georgia Tech conducted an extensive national search that consisted of a series of interviews and meetings this past summer and fall, and included leadership from across campus representing the colleges, divisional units, Student Government Association, and Information Technology. Given the scope of responsibilities, it was critical to identify the candidate who would best be able to understand the complex environment at Georgia Tech, and bring together a team to successfully navigate concurrent changes and opportunities in the information technology environment. These include the addition of the CODA building, a transformation of Georgia Tech’s financial processes and enterprise systems, increasing complexity of cybersecurity, and a renewed focus on information technology governance.
“We were pleased that this search brought several strong candidates to Georgia Tech. The Institute, with its rich community of IT experts on faculty and staff, offers a strong reputation of innovation and collaboration in the marketplace,” said Steve Swant, executive vice president for Administration and Finance. “Mark stood out in his leadership and communication style, and the vision he brings for ‘Creating the Next’ in information technology. Mark has gained the trust of his team during his tenure as interim CIO, and brings extensive experience from his previous work as a CIO in the University System of Georgia.”
The VPIT and CIO will oversee the Institute’s information technology strategy as well as the Information Technology organization, which provides services and resources that include:
