The Georgia Institute of Technology will welcome Association of American Universities President Mary Sue Coleman as the keynote speaker for the undergraduate commencement ceremony December 16.

The Ph.D. and master’s ceremonies, both December 15, will feature, respectively, Georgia Tech President G.P. “Bud” Peterson and Gary B. Schuster, professor of chemistry and bioengineering, as keynote speakers. All ceremonies will take place at McCamish Pavilion on the Georgia Tech campus.

The Ph.D. ceremony begins at 9 a.m. on and includes a hooding ceremony in which the graduates receive their doctoral hood from their advisers. Peterson, who has been president at Georgia Tech since 2009, will deliver the address.

After the Ph.D. ceremony, Peterson will host the President’s Graduation Celebration from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the Tech Tower Lawn, or the Student Center Ballroom should it rain.

The master’s ceremony is scheduled for 3 to 5:30 p.m. and will feature professor, former dean, former provost and former interim president Gary B. Schuster as the keynote speaker.

The bachelor’s ceremony will be the last of the weekend’s activities, on Saturday, December 16 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Undergraduates will hear from Coleman, former president of the University Michigan, who was named by Time magazine as one of the nation’s 10 best college presidents.

In the ceremonies, a total of 1,350 bachelor’s degrees, 1,450 master’s degrees, and 360 doctor of philosophy degrees will be awarded.
