Gisele Bennett has been elected to the 2018 Board of Directors for The Optical Society (OSA) for a three-year term. Bennett was elected by OSA members and election results were announced at the Annual Business Meeting on September 19, 2017, in Washington, DC. She will begin her term on January 1, 2018.

The mission of OSA is to promote the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics and to disseminate this knowledge worldwide. The purposes of the Society are scientific, technical and educational.

Bennett is a Regents’ Researcher, Associate Vice President for Research, Faculty Interaction, Glenn Robinson Chair in Electro-Optics, and a Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She founded the Logistics and Maintenance Applied Research Center (LandMARC), a multi-disciplinary center at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research interests are broad and include coherence theory applications to optical imaging systems, atmospheric turbulence and wave propagation, RFID, and secure supply chain technologies.
