Spooky-ree 2017Members of Eagles @ Georgia Tech, a group of Georgia Tech students who are also Eagle Scouts through the Boy Scouts of America, volunteered over the weekend to bring Halloween to younger scouts at the Bert Adams Scout Camp in Covington, Georgia.
Five members assisted the Atlanta Area Council-Boy Scouts of America at the Spooky-ree event, a fall-themed weekend that included a fall festival, creepy-crawly nature show, pumpkin-carving and decorating, archery, s'mores, and a campfire. The highlight of the weekend was a trick-or-treating trail, including a spookier haunted trail for older scouts and adults.
"It was our privilege to have collaborated at this event,” said Manuel De Juan-Viscasillas, founder and leader of Eagles @ Georgia Tech and a mechanical engineering major. “All members of Eagles @ GeorgiaTech remember when we were very young in scouting. Being able to help out is a thrill and a reward in itself."
The service event was funded in part by the Georgia Tech Parents Fund for Student Life and Leadership’s Grant Program. This program assists Georgia Tech student organizations with funds to underwrite their proposal via an application process. For more information, visit the Parents Program website.
Eagles @ Georgia Tech, which has more than 50 members, is a student group that brings together the scouting-related Georgia Tech community to motivate and facilitate service in the Atlanta area. Any Georgia Tech student can join the organization, regardless of affiliation to scouting, rank attained, or gender.
