Dr. Margaret E. Kosal, Associate Professor in the Ivan Allen College Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, was featured as the Georgia Power Professor of Excellence during Georgia Tech’s home football game against University of North Carolina on September 30, 2017.

 

Kosal was recognized on the field during the third quarter. Her research was highlighted to fans in the arena, and she received a football autographed by Georgia Tech Coach Paul Johnson.  

 

Kosal joined the Nunn School in 2007. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in international security, terrorism, and technology policy, and she directs the Sam Nunn Security Program (SNSP), which brings together doctoral students from across the Institute to learn about and be effective leaders at the intersection of technology and national security. She also leads the 21st Century Security Challenges VIP Undergrad Research Team. She has written two books, received a patent, and has received research support from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), the US Army, the National Science Foundation, and the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, among others. In addition, she is also faculty in the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience at Georgia Tech.
 

Kosal previously has served as a Senior Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, as Science and Technology Advisor within the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), as Senior Adjunct Scholar to the Modern War Institute at West Point, and as an Associate to the National Intelligence Council (NIC), in addition to other consulting. She is the recipient of multiple awards including the Office of the Secretary of Defense Award for Excellence. Recently, she was appointed the Editor-in-Chief of the Cambridge University Press journal, Politics and the Life Sciences.
