It’s officially Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, meaning traditional events like the Mini 500 Race, the Freshmen Cake Race, and the Ramblin’ Wreck Parade will soon take place.
Get ready for a full weekend of events, including the big game on Saturday.
Mini 500 Tricycle Race
Georgia Tech’s Mini 500 Race is a tradition that has been an essential part of Homecoming since 1969. The race is an intense tricycle competition with various organizations competing as teams. Come out to support fellow students in a race to the finish. Students can watch on the sidewalks in Yellow Jacket Alley or around Peters Parking Deck. The race begins at 5 p.m.
President’s Update
From 1 to 2 p.m. in the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center, President G.P. “Bud” Peterson will share an update on the Institute’s global, regional, and local impact as well as the many exciting things happening around campus.
Campus Walking and Bus Tours
Alumni and other visitors to Tech are invited to tour campus with the Georgia Tech Student Ambassadors. Tour guides will highlight infamous landmarks as well as new additions. Tours will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. beginning at the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center.
Freshmen Cake Race
The annual Freshmen Cake Race begins at 6:30 a.m. in front of McCamish Pavilion. All participants receive cupcakes at the finish line. Whether participating or viewing, the race is a fun event and one of Tech’s oldest traditions.
Ramblin’ Wreck Parade
The Ramblin’ Wreck Parade begins at 9 a.m. at the corner of Fowler and Eighth Streets. Attend the parade to watch vehicles and contraptions of all types drive down Fowler Street before the big game.
Ramblin’ Wreck Rally Tailgate
At 5 p.m., Tech Tower Lawn will be the location of the best pregame party around — the Ramblin’ Wreck Rally Tailgate. Entrance to the tailgate party is free. Pick up Georgia Tech apparel, take pictures with the Wreck, and enjoy live entertainment.
Georgia Tech vs. Wake Forest
Cheer on the Yellow Jackets at Bobby Dodd as they take on Wake Forest. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m., and Mr. and Ms. Georgia Tech will be announced at halftime. Each year, Mr. and Ms. Georgia Tech are selected through a process that includes an application, interviews, and voting. They serve in ambassador roles for Georgia Tech during the current academic year.
