Over the last few days, an unusual number of students have reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. Housing, Dining, and Stamps Health Services are working together to assist students and investigate the cause of illness. No consistent food source, activity, or residence location has been identified as the cause so far. We have notified the health department to help us identify the possible cause.

Dining services is investigating any potential food or food preparation sources and housing is enhancing cleaning procedures, especially in areas where germs are most likely to spread.

While we work to determine the cause of the illness on campus, follow these steps to protect yourself and stop further spread of illness:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. Everyone needs to do this to prevent getting sick and to prevent spreading illness to others.
  2. Do not share food, drinks, eating utensils, or drink containers.
  3. If you are ill, limit your travel around campus. Stay in your room or suite as much as possible until you have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours. Do not go to class if ill.
  4. Stay hydrated. If you are ill, drink water or sports drinks to stay hydrated.
  5. Wash dirty laundry on the longest wash cycle and machine dry.
  6. Disinfect surfaces with a dilute bleach solution.
  7. If symptoms persist or you become dehydrated, seek care at Stamps Health Services (schedule an appointment here) or a nearby health care facility.
