India Study AbroadIAC 2801 - Global Religions & International Engagement: India
This 1-credit elective course taught by Dr. Deanna Womack takes the cultural and religious diversity of India as a case study to prepare students for leadership in international, cross-cultural, and religiously plural contexts. Through this course, students will learn about the core beliefs and practices of the three largest religions in India by studying histories of Hindu, Muslim, and Christian communities in South Asia and by witnessing first-hand these communities’ contemporary practices, needs, and aspirations. While visiting India, students will also encounter other traditions, including Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism. The course begins with a required intensive study abroad experience (from Dec. 27, 2017-January 7, 2018). After returning from India, students will complete some additional work and submit a final project.
This course is part of the Leadership and Multifaith Program (LAMP), a collaborative endeavor between Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College and Candler School of Theology at Emory University (http://lamp.iac.gatech.edu). Students must fill out the India study abroad application in order to receive the instructor’s permission to register for the course. The application deadline is Friday, October 27, 2017. A limited number of $500 scholarships are available to assist with the $900 program fee.
