Model United Nations is an educational and entertaining simulation of the functions of the United Nations and other similar intergovernmental organizations. Students who participate in Model United Nations are exposed to the intricacies of international diplomacy in a fun and organized setting that serves as a useful escape from the everyday classroom. Working under an explicit procedure, students will attempt to collectively solve the world's most pressing problems. By assuming the role of a State's diplomatic representative in simulated sessions of various UN committees, students are forced to take a global perspective on world events. Model UN truly provides students with an opportunity to put into action the principles of international politics that they are taught in the classroom.
GTHSMUN is a two day conference that takes place on Georgia Tech's campus located in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia. Created in 1998, this conference has worked to bring international affairs to the high schools of the Southeast. The conference has grown in size over the years and now attracts schools from as far away as Illinois. Run by Georgia Tech students from a variety of majors, GTHSMUN offers a range of committees for high school students to enjoy.
The GTHSMUN staff has endeavored to make GTHSMUN 2006 the most realistic, comprehensive, and most participant-friendly GTHSMUN to date. For its eighth annual conference, GTHSMUN will maintain thirteen committees, including the Organization of American States, Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, and Counter-Terrorism committees. In addition, GTHSMUN 2006 will feature the International Court of Justice. All fourteen committees will conveniently meet on the Georgia Tech campus, situated in Atlanta. The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs strives to provide an enriching experience in hopes that students will benefit from the college and its surroundings.
