Students enrolled in a course on the European Union (EU) taught at Georgia Tech Lorraine attended a session in parliament witnessing EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker outline his vision for Europe’s future.

The experience was part of the INTA 221 course co-taught by professors Vicki Birchfield of the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and Sonia Serafin on the Metz campus.

Juncker’s speech took place on September 13, in Strasbourg, France, the formal seat of the European Parliament. He reviewed the EU’s work over the past year, discussed priorities for the upcoming year, and disclosed his white paper released earlier this year on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the treaties of Rome. Students attended the plenary session for three hours, hearing not only the president’s speech, but also the debate that followed with responses by the heads of the political groups and other members of the European Parliament.
