Full Summary: The Healthy Places Research Group (HPRG), formed in 2003, is a collaborative effort of individuals interested in exploring the relationship between health and the built environment. Join us monthly from September to May to discuss issues, exchange information, and hear presentations pertaining to health policy, impacts, and the built environment. Meetings are open to the public.

Please join us on October 24 for a presentation from James E. Dills, MUP MPH from the Georgia State University titled, "Implementing Health in All Policies through Comprehensive Planning in Louisville, KY"

Comprehensive Planning presents multiple opportunities for the integration of community health and wellness perspectives into built environment decision making.

During Louisville's most recent plan update, scheduled for completion in fall 2017, the Georgia Health Policy Center worked with a range of local stakeholders to enhance the integration of health concepts into the planning process and develop a strategy for continued collaboration as the plan is implemented.

Early in the planning process health was identified as one of five guiding principles - along with connectivity, authenticity, sustainability, and equity. These principles resulted in a plan update that intentionally aims for positive influence on a wide range of health issues of importance to the local community, ranging from physical activity and nutrition to crime and safety. This presentation will provide an overview of the project to date and share emerging lessons learned that can help inform others' efforts to promote public health through cross-sector collaboration.
