Faculty, students, and staff are invited to in the inaugural session of a new inter-campus seminar that colleagues from a number of higher educational institutions in Atlanta are launching on the question of democracy — past and present.
“The Practice of Democracy” is organized and hosted collectively by various departments and institutions in the Atlanta area including Georgia Tech, Emory, Georgia State, Spelman, Morehouse, and the Carter Center. The first session will take place on Monday, Sept. 18, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Emory in Woodruff Library’s Jones Room. That session will feature Ivan Allen College School of History and Sociology Associate Professor Laura Bier among other panelists. All are welcome.
The aim is to build a wide-ranging conversation on the practice and future of democracy, and the role of academics in promoting the flow of reliable information and healthy intellectual and political debate.
